Invite an LA to spend time with your family

The NFSI K12 Pathway community generously supports our LAs throughout the year in a number of ways.  All families are encouraged to engage with LAs, particularly the LA working directly with your child’s grade.  You don’t need to be formally involved in the LA program to invite a LA over to your house for dinner, or invite them on an outing (LAs are always impressed by winter activities!).  Some ideas include inviting a LA to join you for:

  • A sporting event (high school, college or professional)

  • An afternoon at the apple orchard, pumpkin patch or regional park

  • A weekend adventure

  • Dinner with your family

  • A trip to a local museum, theater production or musical performance

  • A fishing excursion

  • Ice skating, skiing or snow tubing

This is a great way to hear your children interacting in Spanish and learn more about what your child is learning at school.

Give a ride

We challenge all NFSI families to provide at least two rides to a LA during the academic year.  Most of our LAs come from urban communities and find it difficult to rely on families for their transportation in a suburban environment.  The only way our LAs get around to experience Minnesota culture and community is by asking our NFSI community members for transportation.  Most ride requests are local to the Woodbury and Cottage Grove area.

New ride requests are emailed out using SignupGenius.

As our LAs reside in K12 pathway members' homes. For privacy reasons, we require our volunteers to register via Signup Genius. If you don't already have an account, please sign up! It takes only seconds!
